STRANGER THAN FICTION:

I went and saw this film with a good friend on thanksgiving break, and was pleasantly surprised; because i was expecting little depth, and somewhat of a comedy considering it was will ferrel somewhat 'serious' role for once. When it was over i walked out satisfied but with a wierd taste in my mouth in all. Another reason why i liked it so much was Maggie Gyllenhaal, the lovely actress from donnie darko, donnie's older sister. what a babe , right?

The main character that Will plays is named "harold crick". Harold Crick is the main character of a novel that is being written at the exact same time. The author is currently having writer's block on how to kill Harold. The Narrarators voice can be heard in the real harold's head during the day. When he realizes he is going to die and what is happening he begins to search madly to find the 'narrarator'. It's a fun adventure, but somehow seems to stall in the middle end. i believe.

Though thrown in as a comedy drama fiction, the comedy side borrows heavily with will's previously acting from anchorman to taledaga. His crooked teeth are still there too. don't worry.

Character wise, it's really good. someone i found odd to be in the film was queen latifah, or however you spell her name, was in this film. a very small role of the secretary for the narrarator. she felt like she stuck out like a sore thumb. Will was good. and all the other cast of smaller known mainstream fame worked amazingly well together.

The music of the film was just average, notihng memorable. so don't waste your money on the soundtrack at all.
One aspect that was really super cool of the film that ran like a thread was the fact that harold was an accountant. With this known fact, little numbers and weird animations would take place counting everything seen by the eye. They would be organized like an accountants mind would be done so. It was very clever.

Another character that was cool was harold's watch. It had a mind of its own and would act up. by the end of the film, the watch is what saves his life.

The romance is decent, but has a nice personality. both actors work well off each other, and i got a big kirsten dunce vibe off of maggie's character. after taking a while to add up, it hits right off with little inbetween. he plays a song on the guitar, they make out and shake it. cute.

Overall, its a good movie, way better then i had my expectation. thats always a good thing. but the ending end for the novel that was said to be so perfect, diddn't seem perfect at all to me, so i don't thnk i will buy the dvd when it comes out, but the despite the flaws its worth a rent definately. now talk some more accountant tax stuff , its a turn on.

twas a pretty cool movie. having ferrel play a serious part was risky, but i think how the movie was structured allowed for it. and i think you're right about queen latifah, although i think that is the way it is in everything she is in.
